Frequently Asked Questions

CAN ANYONE TAKE A CLASS?

Sure can!  We’re a recreational cooking school – anyone from beginner to an advanced home cook will enjoy our inspirational, seasonal classes. Our amazing chef instructors will guide you through the recipes, adding techniques, knowledge and confidence to your cooking skills.  The best part: you’ll get to work with all our fantastic products – in our beautiful state-of-the-art kitchen – to try them before you buy them.

HOW DO I ENROLL FOR A CLASS?

There are three ways to register for our cooking classes.

Enroll online at www.Thekitchen.bedbathandbeyond.com

Call 973-434-2700

Stop by The Kitchen in our East Hanover Bed Bath & Beyond locations and we'll help register you for the classes.

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF A CLASS?

We offer many different classes and our class price reflects the ingredients, seasonality, and staffing of each specific subject.  Most classes are priced for one student unless otherwise indicated.

ARE CLASSES PARTICIPATION OR DEMONSTRATION?

The Kitchen offers both hands-on participation and demonstration classes.  If you want to sit back and watch the chef prepare and explain all the menu items, then demonstration classes are for you. If you want to roll up your sleeves and slice and dice through the recipes, then sign up for a participation class. You will be divided up in groups and our staff will help you prepare the recipes from scratch.

WILL I GET A COPY OF THE RECIPES?

Copies of the recipes will be emailed to you after the class. The recipes you’ll use in class may get messy. Feel free to bring a notebook to write down some notes and thoughts.

CAN YOU BOOK A PRIVATE EVENT?

We encourage it! The Kitchen is available for birthday parties, corporate events, showers, girls/boys night out, private instruction, filming. We  will create a menu just for your group and make your party an unforgettable event. Please contact us for pricing and availability.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR/BRING TO CLASS?

Bring your appetite! For your safety and comfort, please wear long pants, a shirt with sleeves, and flat, closed-toe shoes.  Please abstain from wearing perfume or cologne.  Students will be required to tie back long hair.  Cameras and phones welcomed.  An apron will be provided for your use during class.

I HAVE ALLERGIES – CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE ME?

We are not a nut, dairy, egg or gluten-free facility. If you have dietary restrictions, you may not be able to eat everything cooked in the class.  Our Chefs will be able to instruct you on how to swap ingredients so you can enjoy the recipes in your own home.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A CLASS IS SOLD OUT?

Join our waitlist and if a spot opens up, we will call or email you.

CAN I PURCHASE A GIFT CARD OR GIFT A CLASS?

Yes! Gift Cards can be purchased and used on our website.  You can purchase a dollar amount towards a class or gift a specific class. Gift cards are non-refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash or used for Bed Bath & Beyond products.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE?

Our children’s classes are organized by age groups.  For adult classes – the age minimum is 16 (unless otherwise noted) and students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult registered in the class.

DO WE GET TO TASTE WHAT IS BEING COOKED?

Absolutely!  Each student will get a serving of each recipe prepared.  Depending on the class instructor, some dishes will be sampled as soon as they are prepared and sometimes a full meal will be served at the end of class. Because of local ordinances, all foods must be consumed in the kitchen and leftovers cannot be taken home.

HOW LONG ARE THE CLASSES?

Classes are generally two to three hours.  Some of our workshop classes are four hours. The class length is indicated in the class description.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Due to limited seating and the upfront costs of food we do maintain a strict cancellation policy. Refunds or exchanges will be given for cancellations made one week prior to the class date. Registrations are transferable, so you can send someone in your place.  We ask that you call us or  email in advance so our roster is up to date.  When a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, we will contact you by email or phone and issue a full refund. If you miss a class due to weather-related concerns, our standard cancellation policy applies.

Note: The Kitchen reserves the right to cancel or change a class for any reason. Students will be contacted prior to the scheduled class and issued a full refund.
